Dr. Shamsuddin Shahid is an Associate Professor in More the Department of Water and Environmental Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He is one of the World’s 1000 most influential climate scientists reported by Thomson-Reuters in 2021. He has also been ranked among the World’s top 2% scientists. Dr. Shahid obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology-Kharagpur (India) in 2001. He completed his postdoctoral research at Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena-Germany in 2007-08 under Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship Program. He also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Asian Institute of Technology – Thailand in 2005.
Dr. Shamsuddin Shahid is in academia for nearly 25 years. The major research interest of Dr Shahid is climate variability and changes and their impacts on water resources. He uses climate data collected from different sources to assess historical changes in climate and global climate model simulations for future climate projection. He developed several innovative methods for characterisation and forecasting climate and water scarcity.

The metrology chain includes robust reference More algorithms for 3D pre-processing and characterization of areal surface texture parameters, reference material measures and ultra-high precision measurement facilities. The Second interest of research is about the environmental impacts of polluting gases such as Carbon monoxide (CO), Nitric oxide (NO), Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and Sulfur dioxide (SO2), which mainly come from the combustion of fossil fuels. Research on new materials for gas sensors and/or involved in the development of clean energies, falls within this perspective. . Recently, studies have been carried out on the catalysis of the oxidation of CO by spinel ferrites, but also on the detection of NO2, which show the potential of these materials in the field of sensors and clean energies. So, this work comes in the objective of, first preparing novel spinel ferrites with MFe2O4 general formula (M is a transition metal) for use in the field of gas sensors. A multi-physical model will be developed and solved numerically, to optimize the performance of the device. Most of my research areas are in Design, Materials, and Manufacturing

B.Y.R. Surnam is an Associate Professor at the More University of Mauritius in the Mechanical and Production Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, since April 2018. He had joined the University in 2007 as Lecturer and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2013. In 2014, he was appointed as Head of Department for a period of 2 years.
