Biography

Currently serving as Chief Scientist in a molecular diagnostics research center; Ex-Principal (I/c) of a premier science college (NAAC A Grade); with 35+ years of teaching and research experience in Microbiology & Biotechnology. Awarded International travel grants (UK); CIDA/NSERC, Canada, and The Rockefeller Foundation post-doctoral research fellowships. Pioneering work on the isolation, characterization and cultivation of a) extremely haloalkaliphilic and halophilic archaea, and b) halophilic microalgae from soda lake (Sambhar Lake, Rajasthan); and marine salterns (Mithapur, Gujarat) India, since 1983. Research focused on microbial diversity of saline ecosystems (archaea & microalgae), hydrocarbon degradation, forensic science, genomics, etc. for sustainable development; Availed and coordinated grants and major research projects from DBT, UGC, GUJCOST, GSBTM, etc. Deposited microbial cultures, 16S rRNA, ITS & whole genome sequences in repositories (ATCC, NCIMB, NCMR, NCRM, NCBI, etc.). Awarded Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI) Senior Scientist award (Gujarat State, 2022). Recipient of CSIR JRF & SRF (NET qualified), international fellowships for post-doc research and travel grants. Published books (7 nos. ISBN) and more than 48 research papers/publications. Certified Lead Auditor FSMS (FSSC 22000 v.5.1 Intertek); IRCA FSMS 2018. Five students completed Ph D successfully.
