My Biography

Prof Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma received his Ph.D. More from the University of Delhi, India. He is an Elected Fellow of six Professional Societies/Association/Institutions and Academies. He was conferred DSc (honoris causa) by Dr KN Modi University, Rajasthan in 2020. He superannuated as Director, DFRL, Mysore, on 31 July 2018. Later, he served as the Vice-Chancellor at the SIMATS, Chennai during 2019-21. His latest stint was as the Pro-Chancellor at SGT University, Gurugram for over a year. Dr Sharma was awarded the International Fellowship – Senior Biomedical Scientist of the ICMR in 2008. His seminal contributions include MRS studies of living cells for pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics investigations, development of Radioprotectors, and phytopharmaceuticals against antibiotic-resistant pathogens, Pharmacoscintigraphic technique for targeted formulation evaluation, and Novel multi-dentate ligands-based formulations/wipes/kits and Susnan series of Radiation Decontamination Systems. He carried out translational research in Innovative food preservation and biodegradable packaging technologies, food silos, immuno-based and magnetic nanoparticle assisted aptamer-quantum dot-based biosensor for detection of food / waterborne pathogens and designed/developed a mobile BSL-3 containment testing facility named PARAKH. His passion for research and academics has resulted in 7 granted and 13 published patents, over 300 peer-reviewed papers, 17 edited books, and 58 book chapters.
