My Biography

I am an ocular researcher with a background in More human genetics, cellular and molecular biology, and vision science. My research interests are ocular diseases and their molecular basis of disease pathogenesis, and the development of therapeutic approaches to prevent blindness. I have earned Ph.D. degree from the Banaras Hindu University, India, and studied and reported putative interactors of Pax6 (a master regulator gene of the brain and eye development). The Pax6 interactors are critical in regulating neuronal plasticity, migration, and modulating memory formation, and play an important role in brain aging. In 10 years of my research career, I have worked on human genetics, neuroscience of brain aging, memory formation, and ocular research, published several research articles in National and International peer-reviewed and indexed journals, co-authored a book chapter, and received multiple awards from National and International organizations. Currently, at the University of Missouri, Columbia, USA, I am working on corneal wound healing biology, gene therapy, epigenetic, and nanomedicine approaches to treat corneal fibrosis. My current research is focused on studying corneal fibrosis and the toxicity of chemicals to the eye.

The isolation of NTM species from humans, Mycobacterium virginiense is the second time to be Read More isolated from Human sputum in the world and water, Mycobacterium fortuitum highlighted that active and ex miners are at potential risks of acquiring pathogenic NTM from mining environment. The study has reviewed that they are NTM circulating in the mining environment and humans (active and ex miners) in Zambia which are potential pathogenic in immune comprised individuals. The identification of these Mycobacteria in clinical samples and environmental sources was important for both clinical and patient management, It will also help formulate policy change in understanding transmission factors that increase NTM transmission in mining
