Marwa Elkady

There is no doubt that the most serious problem facing the world now, especially in the African Read More countries, is the problem of water scarcity. As most countries, especially Egypt, are now suffering from a severe water shortage to the point of drought, which prompted many governments to direct a large part of their budget to water research and water desalination including how to treat industrial and agricultural wastewater, and the possibility of reusing thr treated resourcesat either agricultural or industrial purposes. In addition to the desalination of sea water to provide a renewable source of clean water. These research categories have succeeded in reaching great results to contribute in solving the problem of water pollution, which in turn contributes to solving the problem of water shortage and scarcity. One of the most important and most dangerous types of water pollutants is water pollution with dust, dirt, heavy metals, organic dyes, phenols, and microbes, as the presence of these pollutants in the water causes many problems that threaten human life and other forms of life, whether plant, animal, or fish wealth on the Earth. As the impact of these pollutants’extent for long periods because of their accumulation in the food chain of many living organisms, which reach the end of the human food chain, causing many serious diseases. In view of the danger of the presence of these pollutants in water bodies on human health, in addition to their harmful effect on disturbing the ecological balance. Therefore, most countries have set restrictions and introduced strict regulations to limit the presence of these pollutants in water bodies by obligating most industrial entities to reduce the concentration of these pollutants in water before discharging them into water bodies. Recently, the various technologies were highlighted, especially the membrane technologies and their applications at desalinate sea water to provide a renewable source of clean water. On the other hand, the use of agricultural pesticides to combat plant crop diseases is one of the types of environmental pollution, which has harmful and negative impacts on human life. Air pollution is also one of the challenges of the times, given the problems of climate change that the world is facing now. Therefore, my research focused on finding new and innovative solutions to reduce environmental pollution by eliminating pollutants from both water and air, or by fabrication sensor devices for detecting harmful gases to reduce their emissions to the environment, in addition to adapting nanofiber membrane technology for water desalination. In addition to trying to provide a safe and effective alternative to agricultural pesticides by adapting nanotechnology to develop new materials with high efficiency to get rid of these water and air pollutants so that these materials are characterized by their cheapness and being environmentally friendly materials or through the creation of modern engineering separation techniques aimed for separating these harmful pollutants from water and air by using nano-membranes and their composites to separate pollutants in addition to sea water desalinating or through photo-catalytic cracking of these harmful pollutants and contaminates in water and air. Whereas adsorption technology was used as one of the separation processes to remove these pollutants in water and air, which represents a simple, easy, and cheap technique, through the preparation of new nanometric materials, whether organic or inorganic, or the preparation of magnetic or membrane composites. Also, novel materials that including organic materials with inorganic were developed, which are metal organic frame work (MOFs), these innovative materials are effective in eliminating water and air pollutants, while being cheap and environmentally friendly materials. Where my research was utilized the nanotechnology to serve the field of wastewater treatment contaminated with heavy metals, dyes and phenols, in addition to air polluted with ammonia and toluene. By preparing nanometric organic materials such as nanometric polyaniline and other inorganic materials with nanometer dimensions such as hydroxyapatite and zirconium vanadate, which are characterized by their high efficiency to get rid of both water and air pollutants. Also, advanced adsorbent materials were prepared from cheap materials such as nanometric activated carbon fromMagharawaste coal. On the other hand, environmentally friendly nano-magnetic bio-composites were prepared from nanometric zinc oxide with magnetite and nanometric hydroxyapatite with magnetite. Where these magnetic composites were prepared in the form of magnetic materials to overcome the problems caused by the treatment of industrial wastewater, which occur due to the utilization of adsorbent materials in the form of fine powders, which results in a blockage in the treatment tower or a decrease in pressure inside the treatment tower as a result of the fine granules of the adsorbent material gathering together. These environmentally friendly magnetic bio-composites were characterized by their high efficiency in removing various pollutants from polluted water, in addition to the facile of their separating after the treatment process and controlling their performance inside the treatment tower using external magnetic field. Also, through my researchintersts, attention was paid to adapting green chemistry techniques and using environmentally friendly techniques to prepare nanometric materials away from the utilization of traditional chemical processes to reduce environmental pollution. Where several bacterial isolates were isolated, characterized and defined in the laboratory. It was found that these isolates have a high efficiency to reduce silver salt in a biological way and to form silver nanoparticles, which have an effective antimicrobial effect, which can be used to purify water from microbes as an alternative to harmful chlorine. The plant fungi were also extracted from the tomato plant to produce huge nanometric silver particles in a biological way. Nanoscale silver was produced at the industrial level by applying industrial tapuchi under optimal conditions to triple the production of nanoscale silver. This low-cost bio-silver production technology is considered one of the important steps for industrial applications of biotechnology, and the produced bio-silver nanometer has been used as an alternative to agricultural pesticides to get rid of plant diseases. Moreover, various bio-metal oxides nanomaterials were prepared and utilized as an alternative to agricultural pesticides. On the other hand, nanofiber membranes and their composites were prepared with a modern electrospinning technology from cheap polymeric materials such as cellulose acetate or from the polymeric mixture of acrylonitrile with styrene or free styrene, where the first polymer was loaded with many different nanomaterials such as magnetic zinc oxide, hydroxyapatite, and titanium oxide. While a chemical modification was made to the surface of the other nanofibers prepared from the polymeric mixture to increase its efficiency in the different separation processes, including water pollutants separation or to be utilized as sensor devices for harmful gases, or for water desalination. Where different polymericmembranes and their composites prepared by electrospinning method were utilizedat several modern engineering separation processes, which include thermal evaporation water desalination and adsorption to separate pollutants. Also, a modern engineering technique was utilized including photocatalytic cracking technique, to get rid of the various pollutants in the water, where nanotechnology was adapted to create new composites by integrating different nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes and nano-zirconium vanadate with different metal organic framework materials (MOFs)to be utilized as effective photocatalysts for pollutants decontamination for the production of clean water suitable for industrial and agricultural purposes. Finally, attention has been paid through my research to adapt nanotechnology through utilizationnano-fluidsfor the cooling purposes of solar cells to improve their performance and efficiency. Various types of cooling techniques were also applied, whether practicalor mathematical modeling for solar cell concentrators to reduce heat stress on solar cells and increase their efficiency and electricity production. Moreover, attention was also paid to the problem of depleting fossil fuels and finding alternative fuel resourceswhich are environmentally friendly to reduce environmental pollution. Where biofuels were produced from both vegetable and animal oils residues, using micrometric reactors technology and batch production technology.
