My Biography

Zahid Hussain received his M.Sc. degree (2011-13) More in Biochemistry from Punjab University Lahore, and his M.S. degree (2014-17) in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) under the guidance of Prof. Fauzia Yusuf HAFEEZ (TI). He completed his Ph.D. studies (2019-23) in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) under the supervision of Prof. Renjun PEI, in the domain of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine domain. He then joined the same group as a post-doctoral research fellow (2023-2024). His research interests are interdisciplinary and focused on supramolecular chemistry, photo-functional materials, biomineralized materials, cell surface engineering, the development of fiber-reinforced spheroids, and the fabrication of cell-instructive surfaces and scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. Furthermore, he focuses on improving the compatibility, antifouling, and specific cell-homing properties of blood-contacting biomaterials. He has published up to 25 peer-reviewed papers (among them 11 papers as the first or corresponding author) in international journals (h-index 14). Some representative papers were published in Engineered Regeneration, Chemical Engineering Journal, Biomaterials Advances, Applied Material Today, Chemosphere, and ACS Biomater. Sci. Eng Journal.

The isolation of NTM species from humans, Mycobacterium virginiense is the second time to be Read More isolated from Human sputum in the world and water,
Mycobacterium fortuitum highlighted that active and ex miners are at potential risks of acquiring pathogenic NTM from mining environment.
The study has reviewed that they are NTM circulating in the mining environment and humans (active and ex miners) in Zambia which are potential pathogenic in immune comprised individuals.
The identification of these Mycobacteria in clinical samples and environmental sources was important for both clinical and patient management, It will also help formulate policy change in understanding transmission factors that increase NTM transmission in mining

My recent work focuses on developing an innovative approach to address operator fatigue in Read More industrial settings using intelligent Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). By integrating breathable sensors and image data analysis, this technology aims to assess and manage operator fatigue in real time. The impact of this work lies in its potential to enhance workplace safety by proactively identifying and mitigating fatigue-related risks. This solution not only aims to improve the overall well-being of industrial workers but also seeks to optimize productivity by ensuring operators are functioning at their best.
